CAPTAIN Chris Chandler returned superb figures of 6-15, as Basingstoke and North Hants seconds continued their great start to their Southern League Division Three campaign, with a five wicket success at Gosport.

The home side decided to bat and soon regretted it as Bradley Neal ran out opener Lee Harrop.

Chandler then struck to take his first wicket, before Chris Jolley (2-45) removed joint top scorer Tom Larner for 16 as Gosport slumped to 29-3.

Jolley then bowled Michael Ruffell, before Simon Oreal and John Adams (16) moved the score to 55.

Chandler removed Adams thanks to a catch from Chris Froud and from then on it was all downhill for Gosport as they were all out for 76 in the 19th over, with Neal snapping up the final wicket.

The visitor’s reply got off to the worst possible start as they slide to 10-3 as Max Harsham, Froud, Neal all got out scoring two each.

Richard Vinn (14) and Matt Deadman (49) stopped the rot and moved the score to 48-4 , before Vinn was dismissed.

Deadman continued on his way with a match winning performance with the bat, which saw him hit seven fours and one six from 32 balls.

When he was finally the fifth man out the visitor’s were within touching distance of victory on 75-5.

This was completed by Steve Bucksey and Callum Coombs with nearly 30 overs to spare. The Bountymen will hope to continue their perfect start to the campaign when Purbrook are the visitors next Saturday.
