I DON'T think even the most diehard Bison fan would have predicted that last weekend we would score 13 goals in winning both our games at the weekend against teams who had beaten us earlier in the season.

Three of our offensive players were not available : Josh Smith was representing Great Britain ; Ivan Antonov was representing the British Universities; Roman Malinik was still carrying an injury. In addition, I had to put out a four-man defence as Joe Baird had been injured.

It’s in situations like that when the real character of your team shows itself.

They were two good team performances, with everyone stepping up to the challenge, including the young players I called up.

They knew they would be playing valuable minutes in a game which would decide who we would meet in the semi-finals of the Autumn Cup.

Of course, when your Captain scores five goals over the weekend, that helps. Aaron Connolly is having a great season, leading the team on and off the ice.

Two of his goals were scored against Peterborough, the current League leaders.

That result means that we will play Hull in the semi-finals, to play the winners of Peterborough versus Swindon.

So it was a tired, but confident team who travelled to Streatham. They are a team who will battle all sixty minutes, whatever the score.

We scored three goals in the first five minutes and they eventually pulled the score back to 4-4. Aaron scored the game- winning goal.

His contribution was outstanding in a great team performance. Paul Petts and Hallam Wilson, two of the youngest players on the ice, each scored.

Fixtures and deadlines clash over the next few weeks. I wish you all a Happy Christmas and a successful and healthy New Year
