BASINGSTOKE Town Football Club (BTFC) has announced its chairman will step down from his role at the end of the season.

Rafi Razzak, BTFC's longstanding chairman, will leave his role with the club in May 2017 and end his financial support to it.

The appointment of a new chairman will be part of a strategic review, called Plan B, which will determine the long-term future of BTFC.

The review will also include decisions about where the club will play football in the future.

Mr Razzak, who has worked with the Dragons for 25 years, believes it is time for new management to take the team forward.

He said: "I have enjoyed my involvement with BTFC and my connection to the club will continue until I am happy that a suitable long term plan for the club is achieved.

"Therefore, I will continue to be actively involved during the review, before handing over the reign to the new chairman and leaving the club in a financially secure position."
