BASINGSTOKE Town will be without captain Ross Adams for at least two months after the centre-back broke his leg during Saturday’s 1-0 win over Dorchester Town.

The 28-year-old suffered the injury in a challenge with visiting striker Rico Wilson early in the match and was clearly in agony as he was stretchered off.

Adams was taken to Basingstoke hospital where an x-ray revealed that he had broken his right leg, meaning six weeks in plaster.

Town went on to win the game 1-0 thanks to Tim Sills’ first goal on his return to the club – but the victory was overshadowed by the injury to Adams.

Manager Frank Gray said: “It’s a blow for us because he has started the season well and looked dominant in the game on Saturday but it is one of those unfortunate things.

“Hopefully he will make a speedy recovery and there will be no complications because he is a big player for us.

“Centre-back is not an area where we have a lot of cover so I am looking at trying to get another player in on loan but it is bad timing because we have at least one FA Cup game coming up and teams will not want their players cup tied. Rob Rice came in and did well on Saturday but whether he is a long-term solution I am not sure.”

Town will have to do without Adams for the first time tomorrow night, when they travel to Salisbury City (kick-off 7.45pm).
