BASINGSTOKE Bison player/coach Steve Moria is looking for just two forwards to complete his squad after signing seven players last week.

A total of three netminders, three forwards and one defenceman were introduced to Herd fans at a meet and greet evening held at the Basingstoke Arena on Wednesday night.

Basingstoke-born goalkeeper Dean Skinns has signed on for another year with the Bison, while newcomer Matt Colclough will be his back up and youngster Connor Standing gets a chance to train with the first team.

Defenceman Dan Harris has joined from English National League (ENL) side Whitley Warriors, while Daniel Volrab, Jacob Heron and Craig Tribe have been brought in to boost the forward line.

Skinns is no stranger to Bison fans, having played 35 games and taken over as number one netminder last season following a spell away from the club.

“Dean is an established goalkeeper in the English Premier League,” Moria said. “He was an important player for us last season and we wanted him back so we are all happy he has re-signed.”

Colclough is a new face, the 21-year-old joining the Herd after two successful years with the Wightlink Raiders in the ENL, while Standing has been promoted from the youth ranks.

Moria said: “Matt has gone a bit unrecognised over the last few years but he has been playing really well in the English National League and a big factor in the Wightlink Raiders winning the title.

“I think Dean played too much after Christmas last season and it is important that we have two fresh goalkeepers.

“Connor is only 16 but we hope he has potential for the future and we will see how he goes. Next season will probably be more of a learning experience for him, practicing with the senior side and getting used to shots at the higher level.”

Further forward, import signing Volrab is expected to make a positive impact, while 19-year-old Heron joins from Milton Keynes Lightning and 26-year-old Tribe makes the move from local rivals the Bracknell Bees.

“Craig scored 10 goals last year, which was good for a player in his first season at this level,” Moria said. “Hopefully he can do even better for us.

“Jacob is another young prospect. He has looked at the scenario at our club and sees that if you work hard and play well, you can become a regular. He is composed, strong on the puck and has a lot of potential.”

The rash of signings leaves Moria with just two spots to fill in his roster for next season.

“We still have to sign two guys, it’s just a matter of when,” he added. “We want to get everything tied up as soon as possible but there is a while until the season starts.

“Because we have pushed Tony Redmond back I think we are strong enough in defence.

“Now we are looking for a strong British forward and an import who can do the business and score goals.”
