FRANK Gray insists that his Basingstoke Town side will not change the way they play in order to put the pressure on former goalkeeper Ross Kitteridge.

The 20-year-old, who was released by Town over the summer, will return to the Camrose with Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Kitteridge spent two years at Basingstoke but his position at the club became untenable after some high profile mistakes, including two own-goals, saw the supporters turn against him.

He is most vulnerable when facing crosses into the box – but Gray says his side will not alter their style of play to put him under pressure.

“There will certainly be no set plan for him,” the Town boss said.

“He is one of 11 players we have got to beat on Saturday and we will not change the way we play because Ross is in the team.

“It does not matter who is in goal. We will be looking to create clear chances and not give the goalkeeper a chance of saving them.”

Basingstoke have not played in two weeks after seeing two away games called off.

They were without a game on Saturday due to Chelmsford’s continued involvement in the FA Cup, while Monday’s night’s local derby away at Havant and Waterlooville fell victim to the weather.

As a result, Town lie 16th in the Blue Square South table, nine points off of the play-off places – and Gray wants three points on Saturday to make sure the gap does not get any wider.

“It is a game we have to look to win to get closer to the teams above us,” he said.

“When these things happen the table can look false for a while and we need to make sure we stay in touch with the sides above us.”

Bishop’s Stortford are 10th in the table despite having the worst defensive record in the Blue Square South – and Gray is keen to make sure they are not taken lightly.

“It will not be easy, that’s for sure,” he said. “We have got to earn the right to win every game we play.

“We have played quite well in our last couple of games without getting anything out of them.

“That is a performance level we have got to maintain, if not improve on, and hopefully that will be enough to see us through.”

Gray is likely to be without Grant Powell, while Gary Frewen and Sean Hankin been sent to Walton and Hersham and Fleet Town respectively on duel registration forms.

However, he is hoping that goalkeeper Simon Moore, who will remain at the club until January after his loan was extended, will recover from a minor injury in time to play.
