HAMPSHIRE FA ran its girls’ football fun day in conjunction with The FA’s Girls’ Football Week recently.

Arsenal and England ladies’ international Faye White joined 64 young girls at Hampshire FA’s headquarters at Winklebury Football Complex for an afternoon of skills, challenges and games.

Supported nationally by the FA and Tesco, the FA Women and Girls’ partner, Hampshire was selected to run one of nine regional events to promote the game to players aged five to 16 years old.

Players had the opportunity to take part in coaching sessions delivered by the FA Tesco skills coaches, Hampshire FA community coach and Hampshire FA Centre of Excellence coaches as well as take part in target and speed challenges.

White also spoke with the girls about her experiences as a female footballer and presented certificates and signed postcards to all participants at the end of the afternoon.

The FA national manager for women’s and girls’ football was also in attendance on the afternoon as well as various media representatives.

Organiser of the event and Hampshire FA’s women and girls development officer Justine Mosley, said: “The event has been fantastic. To see so many young girls getting involved in football is so great. More and more girls in Hampshire are becoming involved in the game and to see so many new players is brilliant.

“I now hope to get these girls playing club football at the level appropriate to them individually. Thanks to Faye for coming down and speaking to the girls; she has made the afternoon that extra bit special for the players and parents.”
