Football: Hartley Wintney beaten 6-1 at in-form Southall

Hartley Wintney went down to a heavy defeat at a very inspired Southall side, having just won the Middlesex Senior Cup in midweek.

The Row cause was not helped with several players being missing due to suspension, injuries and unavailability.

Southall took control from the start and scored two goals in two minutes to open their account from Makael Scott and Bright Slaw on 17 and 18 minutes respectively (2-0).

Hartley responded and reduced the arrears just three minutes later when Kyan Stephens converted a low right wing cross (2-1).

However, shortly after, the Row's chances were dealt a huge blow when influential centre back George Winser had to leave the field through injury.

The impressive Southall team took full advantage, scoring three goals in a five minutes spell through Dan Roberts (35), and a brace from Scott (37 and 40) to complete his hat-trick.

Hartley improved after the break but were to concede a further goal on 66 minutes from Slaw.

Hartley were also luckless on their trip to Raynes Park Vale the previous Tuesday when they lost out by the odd goal in five.

Conor Lynch gave the Row a half-time lead from the penalty spot after he himself was fouled in the area.

Four minutes into the second half the home side equalised through Chadd Yassin-Sherrif (1-1).

The Vale went ahead on 66 minutes through Jamal Abubakari and they increased the lead 10 minutes from the end with a goal from Ibra Sekajja (3-1).

Hartley rallied and finished the match well.

Lynch scored on 84 minutes to set up a tense finish but the Vale held on to record the three points.
