CHRIS Cook is confid-ent that his Basingstoke side have the ability to pick up their second consecutive league win this weekend.

Having lost their opening game of the London 2 south season at Gravesend, 'Stoke bounced back well to beat Beckenham 45-20 at Down Grange last week.

They will be looking to pick up their first win away from home on Saturday (3pm), when they travel to Old Colfeians.

"We put things right last Saturday and are now look-ing to travel away and keep the points tally on the inc-rease," Cook said.

"I do not care how we do it, I just want a win."

Old Colfeians, who are based in south-east London, have failed to win either of their opening games, going down 31-15 at home to Tun-bridge Wells and losing 28-14 at Dover last week.

"They will be looking for their first win, so it will be tough," Cook added. "We have just got to make sure we continue their run of losses.

"If we play to the same level we did last week, without switching off like we did at times, we are good enough to win the game."

Cook was delighted with the way the team played for most of last weekend's win but wants to see them perform at their best for the whole 80 minutes on Saturday.

"It was good to get a win and the performance, in patches, was very good," he said. "We were in control and built a good lead but let them back in. In the second half, mistakes and ill-discipline allowed them back in again.

"We are working in training to try and get a more consistent performance for the full 80 minutes. It's about having the composure to play so we have periods of extended pressure rather than trying to finish teams off at the first go."

Cook will be without centre Tim Richards (back) and utility back Mike Goodall (ankle), while second row Kelvin Chapman should recover from the cut that forced him to be replaced during last weekend's match.

Even without these players, there is plenty of depth to the 'Stoke squad, something Cook is happy about.

"There is a lot of compet-ition for places in certain positions," he said. "I was very pleased with the changes we made on Saturday, but we are still to find our best combinations."
