Dean Nurse's unbeaten 83 runs helped Basingstoke & North Hants to a surprising 14-run victory against Royal Wootton Bassett in the ECB National Club Championship, writes Mike Vimpany.
On arrival to the crease, his team was at a disadvantage of 61-6. However, forming a fruitful partnership with Matt Donaldson (23), he pushed the score to 105.
His contribution included three sixes and six boundaries - his highest score for Basingstoke in 10 years. Smaller scores from teenagers Alex Bovill (18) and Dubs Wood (17), as well as Ali Brown's late 18, led to a competitive 188-8.
Despite Wootton Bassett appearing likely to win at 112-1, they astonishingly lost nine wickets for 62 runs, ending at 174.
Basingstroke's Brown, Donaldson and Joe Oates each secured two wickets, and now face Bath in the next round.
