SAINTS forward Adam Armstrong has been named fans' player of the season and players' player of the season.

Armstrong has hit 20 goals and provided 13 assists across 45 Championship fixtures this season - more than anybody else in the division.

The 27 year old received his awards on the pitch at St Mary's after Southampton's disappointing 1-0 defeat to Stoke City.

Addressing the supporters who remained in the rain for the post-match awards, Armstrong said: "We need to settle down and get ready for the playoffs.

"I think it's been an excellent season - we went 25 games unbeaten which was unbelievable. We have put ourselves in an amazing position.

"We could have been in the top two but it is what it is. We have to keep moving on and get raring to go for the playoffs.

"It's been amazing this season, I couldn't have done any of this without my teammates, who have helped me get as many goals and assists as I could possibly get.

"The Leeds game at home stands out as a key moment because we went into that off the back of four defeats.

"We are in an amazing position. We will take every game as it comes. Let's get to Wembley and let's get back to the Premier League."
