NEXT season is going to be a special one for ice hockey in Basingstoke, as the town's club celebrates its 20th anniversary.

The first-ever ice hockey game in the town was played on July 17, 1988, when the then-named Basingstoke Beavers beat the Bournemouth Stags 27-2.

Twenty years on, in early September, there will be a special reunion game with many former players from the first 20 years of the Basingstoke ice hockey club's history involved.

You can play your part in the celebration by designing a commemorative logo to go on the event's shirts.

The logo should reflect the history of the club from the Beaver days through the stampede years of the Bison.

For ideas and all the former club logos, log on to the Basingstoke Bison website.

The finished logo will be worn on the special anniversary reunion shirts and will also be incorporated as a patch on the shirts of the Herd's Elite League jerseys for next season.

The winner will get two tickets to the reunion game and will be presented with a team shirt on the ice, with their logo design on the front and their name on the back.

In addition, they will receive a framed print of the finished design.

Entries need to be submitted on A4 paper, in full colour with the entrant's name, address and contact telephone number on the back.

They should be sent to Paul Baldwin (Logo Competition), Basingstoke Bison Ice Hockey Club, Basingstoke Arena, Leisure Park, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG22 6PG. Alternatively, hand your entry to the supporters club table at the Bison's home game with Coventry on Saturday night.

The closing date for all entries is Saturday, March 29.

The judging panel is made up of Tomas Enerston, Ryan Aldridge and Harry Robinson, and the winning logo will be featured in Thursday's Gazette on April 10.
