BASINGSTOKE and North Hants booked their place in the semi-final of the Guy Jewell Cup with an eight wicket victory over Hartley Wintney, writes Graham Merry.

The village side batted first in the 20 over encounter and Jonny Kerr starred with the bat scoring an unbeaten 81 in their total of 155-7, while Jake Fincken, Dubs Wood and Matt Donaldson all took two wickets each.

In reply, skipper Matt Deadman (66) and Wood (54 not out) helped Basingstoke to a winning total of 156-2.

The victory means the Bountymen will now meet Hook in the semi-final, while Andover awaits the winners of the Rotherfield Park and Odiham and Greywell game in the other final four match.

Overton are the latest side to make the last eight of the Cyril Thompson Trophy, after they enjoyed a 61-run success over Herriard.

He then top scored for Herriard with 20, but they were bowled out for 82 as Charlie Bowden (4-15) and Andy Galvin (2-10) did most of the damage.

The draw for the quarter-finals of the Trophy has been made and Overton will face the winners of the Stratfield Turgis against Ramsdell game. Ashford Hill take on Oakley, East Woodhay battle it out with Chawton and the winners of Aldermaston Rugby or Rotherwick ITW game will play Yateley.

The next first round game in the Trophy is on Monday, June 20 when Stratfied Turgis and Hartley Wespall take on Ramsdell at May’s Bounty starting at 6pm.
