Basingstoke Ladies 1s were beaten 1-2 as they travelled to Oxford for their final league game before the Christmas break, writes Roma Fox.

Both teams started at pace with chances in the opening minutes for both sides. A fast and precise attack from Oxford Hawks unpicked the Basingstoke defence leaving them trailing after 5 minutes. Basingstoke re-grouped and fought back level in the third quarter via a well-drilled penalty corner from Catriona Bausor.

Oxford Hawks then converted a penalty corner in the final quarter making the final score 2-1 to Oxford Hawks. Basingstoke Ladies 1s, sponsored by K J Smith Solicitors, currently sit seventh in the table and will return to league action in the New Year.

Basingstoke Ladies 2s faced ninth-placed Milton Keynes Ladies 1s. Basingstoke started well, with some great play down the right from Maddie Saunders who ran round the Milton Keynes defence easily.

The score remained 0-0 going into half time. The second half started well for Basingstoke, until a strike from the top of the D from Milton Keynes made it past the Basingstoke defence and goalkeeper to put Milton Keynes 1-0 up.

Basingstoke came back quickly and earnt a penalty corner, from which Fiona Parker scored a fantastic strike from the left of the D to make it 1-1. Basingstoke kept attacking until the closing minutes, however a late penalty corner led to a penalty stroke after the ball was stopped on the line by a foot. Milton Keynes converted to win the game 2-1.

Basingstoke Ladies 3s earned another three points at home this week, with two goals from Jude Bird and one from Sarah Lemasney. Basingstoke Ladies 4s suffered a 0-10 defeat away at Portsmouth, while Basingstoke Ladies 5s lost 1-5 to Havant 5s at home.

Next week, Basingstoke Ladies 2s are at home against top of the table Trojans 2s from 10:15am, along with the Ladies 4s at 10:45am and Ladies 6s at 3pm. In the away fixtures, Basingstoke Ladies 3s face Chichester 2s at 3pm and the Ladies 5s face Portsmouth 4s.

Basingstoke Men’s 1s beat South Berkshire 1s 3-1, with goals from Graham Garrett-Lang, Liam Harrison and Dan Stewart. Basingstoke Men’s 2s suffered a 2-8 defeat away against Trojan’s 2s, with two goals from David Stones, and Basingstoke Men’s 3s lost 1-6 away in the New Forest.

Basingstoke Men’s 4s were also able to seal a win with a 3-2 victory against Hamble 3s, with two goals from Eliot Boyd and one from Calum Saint. There was no game for the Men’s 5s, while the Men’s 6s lost 0-1 to Havant 7s.

Next week Basingstoke Men’s 1s travel to Witney to try to earn another three points. Basingstoke Men’s 2s and 3s are at home at 1:30pm and 11:45am respectively, along with the Men’s 6s at 12 15pm. Basingstoke Men’s 4s are away at Chichester and the Men’s 5s face Portsmouth 5s away.
