THE Basingstoke Bison have re-signed one of their top British goal scorers in Alex Sampford.

The 24-year-old Basingstoke-born forward is back for a third full season with the Herd looking to build on his excellent last campaign.

The sharp shooter hit the net 22 times which put him in the top 15 for the whole league for British forwards in season 2019/20.

He was third in Bison’s goal getters, one behind fellow Brit Ashley Tait with Slovak sniper Michal Klejna leading the way with 34.

He also added 20 assists to his goals to take his points tally to 42 which saw him finish fourth in the Bison’s points race.

In his previous campaign the right winger netted 19 times for the Herd, after making the switch back to his home town team from Streatham.

He had a one and a half year spell in London, after a season with the Wightlink Raiders where he also bagged 19 goals.

Bison player/coach Ashley Tait is excited to have Sampford back and said: “He has a great touch around the net and is an important goal scorer for us.

“He is someone who is in the right place at the right time and is improving with every season.”
