A Basingstoke boy has been selected for Great Britain’s U16 ice hockey camp at Ice Sheffield.

Roman Cathcart plays for Junior Bison’s U15 team.

He will join the GB U16 camp at Ice Sheffield this weekend.

Stewart Tempest, chair of Basingstoke Junior Bison and Buffalo, said it has been a tough year for all young athletes especially for those on an elite pathway, but “Roman has made the Bison proud”.

He added: “With the help of his family, teammates and coaches Roman has worked hard on and off the ice to earn his place in the Great Britain program.

“Go well Romes, your teammates, coaches and club are proud of your achievements.”

Roman’s dad Ryan Cathcart has played for Basingstoke Beavers, the forerunners of the Bison, during 1992-93.

Current Bison player Brendan Baird is Roman’s uncle.

A part of hockey dynasty, Roman’s another uncle Joe Baird has played 14 seasons for Bison.

His brother Tyton Cathcart currently plays for Junior Bison U18 team and NHL 2 side Basingstoke Buffalo.
