BASINGSTOKE is gaining a new six-a-side league just women.

The league will start after lockdown, and will be organised by Soccersixes, a company which specialises in the organisation of small-sided football.

Games will be held weekly and based at Winklebury 3G on Friday nights.

The league is being supported by Professional Woman’s Footballer Ashleigh Neville, who plays for Tottenham Hotspur.

She is supporting the initiative to try and increase participation in women’s football.

The Community Woman’s league is scheduled to kick off at the end of Lockdown and will run every week and there will be divisions for different standards so every woman who wants to play football can join the league.

Teams will play a 40 minute match each week with a qualified referee.

The league will cost just £4 per player and all equipment will be provided.

Any woman over the age of 16 can enter the league. The league will be open to teams who wish to join and also to single players.

Single players can join and will be entered into a team once joining. The league is therefore open to any woman.

The league is supported by Tottenham’s Ashleigh Neville said: “The leagues operated by Soccersixes.net are very well organised. Having visited their leagues I was impressed by the organisation and professionalism.

“I am very happy to be supporting the new Woman’s leagues and getting involved.

“Woman’s football has grown massively in recent years and a lot of woman are now involved in playing football.

“The new six-a-side leagues will make it easy for any woman, of any standard, who wants to play football, to be able to play football weekly in an organised league.”

All matches are officiated by qualified referees while sixes staff will attend the league each week to ensure the smooth running of fixtures and to deal with any queries.

Anyone can enter and you do not need to be an organised or established team, you may simply be a group of friends, work colleagues or even mates from the pub.

Single players can meet new people and join a team also, the league is open to everybody.

The league will be fully affiliated to the FA.

Soccersixes Jade Formaston, who also is a professional woman’s footballer plays for Derby County Woman and supports woman’s football said: “This league has been organised for the benefit of the local woman in the community and it’s an exciting event which woman can become involved in.

“It’s great that Ashleigh Neville is supporting and launching the leagues and will be presenting trophies at the end of the season if not busy playing for Tottenham.
