BASINGSTOKE Town will be hoping for a repeat of their FA Cup victory against Bournemouth FC when they return to cup action tonight.

The Dragons will take on Chichester City at Winchester's City Ground tonight, with the winner securing a place in the next round and will be one step closer to a dream draw against a big side.

Town, who will play their first game of their league season away at Gloucestershire-based team Slimbridge next weekend, must first navigate the tricky test against the Isthmian League South East Division's Chichester City under the lights tonight.

The Lillywhites received a bye in the extra preliminary round, so this will be their first competitive game since March.

Before last year's campaign was abandoned as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Chichester were sat ninth in their division - which is at the same level as Basingstoke Town's. They had recorded 45 points from 25 games, and had up to five games in hand on the teams above them.

However, Basingstoke will be full of confidence after the high drama of a penalty shootout win last time out.

They defeated Bournemouth FC in Reading last Tuesday, and have the confidence of knowing they should be back playing home games in the town this month.

The game will kick off at 7.45pm, with the winner taking a place in the first qualifying round.
