BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club Ladies sixth team turned in an exceptional performance as they beat Southampton University 7-1.

Against the run of play Southampton won a penalty corner and scored.

Basingstoke’s swift response was through Jo Lockyer, whose fabulous strike, equalised things.

Not to be out done, Emily Romain put Basingstoke in the lead. Shortly before half time Basingstoke extended their lead to 3-1 thanks to Luci McCallum.

The second half was more of the same with Basingstoke controlling the game. Basingstoke’s fourth goal came from a beautiful run down the right wing by Tamzin Williams who crossed the ball to Jo Lockyer who deflected in the ball for her second goal.

Lockyer completed her hat-trick from a goalmouth scramble and struck again from a penalty corner to make it 6-1. Jess Ochtman completed the scoring for Basingstoke.

In their away game this week, the fifths were up against Salisbury’s second string. The home side scored either side of the break, Basingstoke getting a consolation goal through captain, Karen Binney.

In other games this week, the ladies seconds lost 2-1 against New Forest, and the thirds won 2-1 against Salisbury, with goals coming from Jude Bird and Katie Smith, and player of the match being awarded to Olivia Wade. It was a hard game for the fourths who found themselves on their receiving end of a 4-1 defeat against Haslemere. The seventh team lost 1-0 against Fleet and Ewshot.

In the men’s games, the firsts lost 3-2 against Reigate Priory, and the seconds won 2-1 against Petersfield. It was a 2-0 win for the thirds against Fareham. The fourths lost 1-0 against Fareham and the fifths won 6-1 at Fleet and Ewshot, while the sixths drew 2-2 against Farnham.
