BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club Ladies second team crushed Blandford 9-0.

Basingstoke were quick out the blocks, looking dominant going forward and linking well through the team.

This was rewarded with a flurry of early goals from both open play and short corners, with finishes coming from Sammy Field, Meg Bowden, Cath Mac and Rachel Roberts.

Basingstoke went into half time 5-0 up and continued their run of form into the second half.

Blandford gave Basingstoke a scare, which was saved on the line by Olivia Wade, but there were more goals from Sophie Ferguson and a top corner penalty flick finish from Nicola Burridge completed the 9-0 win

The sixths welcomed New Forest this week and the visitors started strongly and opening the scoring early in the first half.

Despite Basingstoke’s best efforts to get back into the game, New Forest doubled their lead from a well worked short strike.

Basingstoke responded with a beautiful reverse stick goal from Luci McCallum to put the win back in reach for the home side shortly before half time.

With their confidence boosted, the home side pressed hard for the equaliser which came from McCallum.

A solid performance and 2-2 draw from the sixth team.

The fifths kept their sights set on a promotion, after a well well-deserved 5-1 win against formidable opponents Yateley.

The opposition took an early lead after 15 minutes, but the fifths hit back as Nell Ruane equalised and Karen Binney made it 2-1, following a well-executed penalty strike.

In the second half, the ladies tightened their grip on the game with a hat-trick from Sue Pett.

The fifth goal coming from text book hockey, which started from defence, into midfield and a great strike from Pett, who received the ball by the post, before slamming it into the back of the net.

The fourths enjoyed an 8-0 win at home to Wimborne, they took charge from the pushback, with Maier tapping in the first on the reverse within minutes from a rebound off the goalkeeper after a Bev Mackay shot.

Mackay claimed the next with a trademark smash and after that the goals came thick and fast, with two more coming from Maier, one a brilliant passing move down the left hand side begun by the left back Charlie Rixon, another from AJ Rowe drawing the goalkeeper then side-passing for Maier to walk in.

Mackay took another, and one came from Jasmine Payne following some lovely interlinking with newly recovered Gill Lloyd making a crucial interception to start the move.

Basingstoke continued to boss the game through the second half, with AJ Rowe hitting the crossbar with a resounding ding. Maier took control of a scrap in the D to score another goal to bring her tally to four, and Megan Payne joined her sister on the scoresheet.

The sevenths secure their first win of the season as they won 3-2 on the Isle of Wight. Helen Hillier scored the first and game winner, while Lauren Kan netted her first goal.

At 3-2 the islanders tried to equalise, but the defence held strong, with first time goalkeeper Hannah Dicken holding her own and player of the match Janice Spalding playing a pivotal part in the game.
