Southampton's Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ahead of the Crystal Palace tie

Hojbjerg netted a 90th minute goal in the same fixture last season, which saw the St Mary’s side win 2-0 at Selhurst Park.

Saints go into the game on the back of surrendering a lead at home to Wolves on Saturday.

However, Hojbjerg feels there is enough positivity within the dressing room to see Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side bounce back.

The Danish international said: “The team is very excited to go back there and show we are in a good moment.

“Everybody is feeling fit and it’s a good opportunity for us to continue growing.

“I take my responsibility and the leaders in the dressing room also take their responsibility in the dressing room.

“Above all, we are in a good moment which means we can look each other in the eye and we can keep going.

“The fans are always behind us, so we are excited for every game. It’s a good feeling.

“We want to show and continue the progress we are making.”

Before their defeat to Wolves, Saints were unbeaten in their previous six matches and had won five of those.

This leaves them six points ahead of the relegation zone, although at half time on Saturday, they were 10 points clear.

Their impressive run of form was always going to come to an end, but Hojbjerg admitted his disappointment at the way it happened.

“Of course [I’m disappointed],” added the Saints captain.

“We had everything in hand and you can say they were a direct opponent.

“We are still on a good run and in a good position at the moment, we are looking forward to bouncing back against Crystal Palace.”

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl held a meeting with the squad on Sunday to go over the Wolves match before turning his side's attention to tonight's encounter with Palace.

Hojbjerg believes it's important to get a debrief from the St Mary's defeat in order to boost their chances of correcting the mistakes they made, saying: “We will analyse it in a good way and we'll look to be taking the opportunity to put it right.”
