SAINTS manager Ralph Hasenhuttl doesn't want to "destroy" the atmosphere within the squad by bringing in too many new faces.
Saints have gone six games in all competitions without defeat and are targetting full-backs in this month's transfer window.
However, Hasenhuttl revealed that his approach has altered slightly.
Hasenhuttl reflected: "We must be careful, we have a balanced squad with a good atmosphere and I don’t want to take any risk to destroy this.
"But we know it sometimes goes quick and you need alternatives. But as I said I have big hope in our young players.
"It’s now a bit easier maybe for them to step in because the team has found itself and we have found a shape that is comfortable.
"The automatism and behaviours are getting more and more unique and this is exactly the best atmosphere for the young players to make the step."
The club have been linked with a host of players throughout the window but are yet to bring anyone in.
Hasenhuttl made it clear that they will only dip into the market if it makes perfect sense for the club and not just for the sake of signing someone.
“If we bring somebody in, then we must be sure it won’t block their [young players] development because this is the main way we want to go in Southampton. We want to develop the young players.
“We don’t do anything just because we have to do something.”
