BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club Ladies, sponsored by KJS Solicitors enjoyed a well deserved 3-1 victory over Birmingham University II’s this week.

The pouring rain did not detract from Basingstoke’s focus as they piled on pressure from the onset and putting Birmingham on the backfoot.

Basingstoke’s first goal came within the first five minutes from captain Catriona Bausor, who was in the right place at the top of the D to meet Roxy O’Dea’s cross.

Unbelievably, their second goal was scored shortly after by forward Claire Bowman, who’s great shot, allowed her to beat the goalkeeper with nifty stick work and a calm finish.

In the second half, Birmingham came back fighting putting Basingstoke under intense pressure for much of the third quarter, and earning themselves several attacking penalty corners, with one finally converting from a superb deflection into the net.

In the final 15 minutes of the game, player of the match, Nic George won the ball with an excellent roll out in the D and neatly placed the ball past into the net to complete a 3-1 victory

Basingstoke face Oxford University in their next match at Down Grange this Saturday at 2pm.

The ladies fifths lost 2-1 in their match against Chichester.

In what proved to be a wet evening with continuous rain, the game was level pegging in the first half with both team getting opportunities to take the lead.

Chichester then scored first, but Basingstoke responded in kind through a great deflection from Toyah Jefferies.

In the second half the fifths seemed to lose their shape, allowing Chichester to work the ball through the middle of the pitch and subsequently scoring their second goal.

Goalkeeper and player of the match Gemma Allen worked hard to stop any further goals.

Basingstoke came back fighting in the latter stages of the game, winning a short corner which just did not convert, in what was a disappointing loss.

The seventh team lost 7-0 against Poole and the fourths won 1-0 against Trojans.

In their game against Petersfield, the under 12 girls won 2-0 with both goals coming from Heidi Lloyd.

The under 16 girls lost 5-2 in their match against Aldershot and Farnham.

In the men’s games, the seconds beat Southampton University 2-1, and the thirds won 1-0 against Yateley.

The men’s fourth team drew 3-3 against Havant and the fifths won 4-2 against Andover.

The under-12 boys travelled to Yateley and put on an impressive display, coming away with an 8-0 win.

Seven goals coming from Dylan Brockbank and the eight from Cian O’Reilly.

The under-16 boys played a fantastic match against Andover, winning 5-1.
