BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club Ladies sponsored by KJS Solicitors played an away fixture against Oxford Hawkes this week.

Basingstoke started well, working the ball well up the pitch, from defence through to the midfielders and up to the forwards.

Oxford’s defence was solid and rebuffed the attacking onslaught.

Credit to the opposition who held their own with great counter attacks and accurate passing across the pitch, seizing an opportunity to dissect Basingstoke’s attack.

However, Basingstoke’s defenders marked the opposition well, picking off many of Oxford’s attempts in the D.

The ladies' goalkeeper, Gemma Carswell was always on the front foot, shutting down any attempted shot on goal.

Kudos to Maisy Ellis for fantastic tackling throughout the match.

In the latter stages of the game. Basingstoke managed to win an attacking penalty corner through an impressive speedy and skilful drive on the right wing from captain, Catriona Bausor.

Unfortunately, the straight strike went just wide of the post.

Oxford counter attacked but were unable to win any short corners.

The match was well balanced, with end to end chances on both sides, with neither team able covert. The game ended with a 0-0 draw.

With a rest this week, Basingstoke look forward to an away match against Birmingham University 2’s on Saturday, November 9.

In other games this week. In their home game, the men’s fourths lost 5-1 against Fleet and Ewshot.

With Basingstoke’s only goal coming from player of the match, Eliot Boyd.

The men’s second team won 1-0 against Gillingham. The men's first team won 3-1 against Sunbury and Walton Hawks, with goals from Andy Pett.

Ben Jubin and Dean Record. In a closely contest game, the men's three's narrowly lost 4-3 against Andover 2s, with Jez Smith, Adam Cramer and Mike Lindley adding their names to the score sheet.
