BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club men's first team won 2-1 in their home game against Reigate, with two great goals from Andy Pett.

The Ladies first team sponsored by KJS Solicitors, were up against Oxford University this week.

After a long drive due to the closure of the A34, Basingstoke were itching to get into the game.

They did not disappoint, winning their first penalty in the early stages of the first quarter.

Unfortunately, captain Catriona Bausor’s strike went wide of the post.

The ladies continued to test Oxford’s resolve but could not quite get the early lead they were looking for.

The second quarter was a scrappy affair, with both teams evenly matched in pace and style of play, and no conversion from either team.

The third quarter saw penalty corners from both ends of the pitch.

Basingstoke held solid in defence, clearing the ball well and narrowly missing out on scoring and taking the lead.

The final quarter was eventful with attacks and counter attacks, with both teams pushing for a goal.

Some lovely interplay between Basingstoke’s midfielders enabled Nic George to have a one on one with the Oxford goalkeeper.

Unfortunately, the ball hit the post, bouncing off wide. Oxford won a penalty corner in the last minute of the game.

Fortunately, goalkeeper Gemma Carswell saved the initial drag flick, but the ball rebounded in the air, and an opposing player smashed it towards the net.

A brave Esther McIlvenny stood her ground on the goal line, absorbing the shot of the ball. This resulted in a penalty flick to Oxford, with Gemma Carswell pulling off an impressive save. The match concluded with a 0-0 draw.

Basingstoke are up against Oxford Hawkes in their next game on Sunday.

The fourths lost 2-1 in their away game to Haslemere. Both teams started off strong in tempo and good passing play.

Basingstoke’s goal came from an opening in the middle of the pitch, where a lovely ball was hit to the waiting forward Ulrike Maier.

Who finding herself one on one with the goalkeeper, scored a great goal by slipping the ball to the left corner of the post.

In the second half, Haslemere came back fighting scoring two great goals.

Despite losing 2-1, Basingstoke played well against a team that’s currently top of the league.

The fifths pulled off an impressive 3-0 win against Salisbury, in their home game this week.

The game was evenly matched from the onset, with goalkeeper and player of the match Gemma Allen, pulling off some great saves to avoid Salisbury taking the lead.

Ten minutes before half-time, Fortune Belcher scored Basingstoke’s first goal from a rebounded shot.

In the second half, the fifths stepped up their game, with great interplay between the midfield and the forwards.

This allowed Jenny Rust to score two great goals in succession, one being a fantastic lob over the goalkeeper, following a one-on-one confrontation.

Salisbury attempted to make a comeback but to know avail thanks to Gemma’s great goalkeeping. A well-deserved win to the 5s.

The sixth team won 6-0 in their game against Southampton University.

Basingstoke had the upper hand from start to finish, with their confidence growing as the game progressed.

Basingstoke’s four goals came from Luci McCallum, Ellie Youngs and Sophie Cook also managed to get their names on the scoresheet with a goal each.

This was a great game from the sixths who played a smart game of hockey, with patience and tenacity.

The under-16 boys played a brilliant match against Aldershot and Farnham with a 5-2 win.

Aldershot were boasting four Hampshire players including a Hampshire goalkeeper.

They were of the view that this would an easy win for them, however this was not the case.

Some great teamwork allowed Basingstoke to take an early lead through player of the match, Tomas Bonser.

Shortly after the opposition broke into the D to level the game at 1-1.

End to end hockey continued with chances for both teams with Basingstoke holding on to go into a draw at half-time.

A switch in play and tactics from Basingstoke in the second half saw them playing textbook hockey, by opening the channels and ripping Aldershot and Farnham apart down the wings.

Four goals scored from outside wide play, then across the D and finishing on the far post into an open goal by the ever-hungry Joseph Grice.

Aldershot and Farnham were not going down without a fight, piling on pressure in the last 10 minutes.

However, outstanding saves from goalkeeper, Stephen Daykin in goal kept them at bay.

Aldershot and Farnham finally broke the deadlock right at the death to score their second.

But this was Basingstoke’s victory, which sees them securing their third consecutive win.

In other games, the ladies seconds won 3-2 against New Forest, with the ladies thirds also winning 1-0 in their game against Salisbury.

The ladies seventh team lost 3-1 against Fleet and Ewshot.

The men’s seconds won 3-1 against Petersfield.

The men's thirds had a 1-1 draw against Fareham and fourths drew 2-2 against Fareham.

The men’s fifth won 4-1 against Fleet and Ewshot and sixths lost 1-0 against Aldershot and Farnham.
