WAVERLEY A began their Basingstoke and District Badminton League Mixed Division One campaign with a maximum point win over newly promoted Aldermaston, writes PETER ASKEW.
Trebles from Wayne Drake/Gina Rapacioli, Peter Bevell/Emma James and Neil Atkins/Emily Chappell earned them a 9-0 victory.
Leaders Viking A moved seven points clear at the top by winning their second fixture against Beechdown by 7-2, Tim Cooper /Julie Shawley notched a treble the hard way with three hard fought wins that all went the distance.
This was backed up by a hat-trick from Khem Bahadur-Limbu/Susan Godfrey and a single from Simon Williamson/Alison Crawford.
Beechdown A took two points with singles from Peter Leeds/Lisa Moran and Simon Hughes/Nikki Acton.
Aldermaston recovered from their opening fixture whitewash to beat Andover 7-2 with a hat-trick from William Belfield/Julie Ward and doubles from Chris Apsey/Claire Drysdale and David Ord/Helen Apsey.
Tim Hunt/Pauline Prior won two rubbers for Andover in a losing cause.
A hat-trick from Tom Penn/Louise Kingham and doubles from Mike De Sousa/Sam Hollindale and Mark Bayliss/ Sandra Smith saw Beechdown B to a 7-2 win over their C team and top spot in Mixed Division Two.
An 8-1 win for Viking B over Phoenix saw them leapfrog Beechdown B and take over the lead.
Trebles from Robert Lewin/Deborah Vincent and Robert Jackson/Juliet Macaskill underpinned their victory.
BH Pegasus A won their third match in a row with a 7-2 win over Waverley B.
This opens a 13 point gap at the top of Open Division One, albeit having played two games more than second place Waverley A.
Adam Turner/Nick Reid continued their 100 per cent start to the season with another hat-trick, whilst a double from Adam Hood and Sam Kersley earned Waverley B their points.
