HARTLEY Wintney progressed into the third round of the Hampshire Senior Cup with an easy 5-1 win over a plucky Fareham Town side.

The Creeksiders had the first effort on 11 minutes when the lively striker Simon Woods broke free on the right and saw his effort saved by the well positioned Luke Williams in the Hartley goal.

Hartley responded and three minutes later an effort from distance from Mickel Platt was pushed around the post by Fareham keeper Ash Downs. From the resultant corner kick on the left by man of the match Ty Smith, Shane Hollamby rose highest and nodded the Row in front.

Hartley added a second goal on 25 minutes when a corner on the right from Steven Duff found the head of Matt Drage who nodded home.

On 31 minutes it became three following a good burst from Callum Abraham-Barlow down the left. The young defender set up Platt who fired home from the edge of the box.

Luke Slade made a good long run for Fareham on the stroke of half time and his parting shot was saved by Williams.

The second half saw a period of very open play. On 49 minutes Slade tried a shot from distance which was held by Williams.

On 59 minutes the visitors pulled a goal back with the softest of soft penalty kick awards. Woods chasing a long pass collided with the outrushing Williams and referee Tom Moisey pointed to the penalty spot. Ethan Jones took the kick which Williams managed to parry, only to see Jones follow up and score.

A minute later Hartley restored the three goal lead. Steven Duff made good progress down the left wing and his cross saw a bullet header from a diving Jack French find the net.

The Row squandered a host of chances thereafter. However they did add a fifth goal towards the end when a fierce Duff shot was parried only for Ty Smith to convert the rebound.

After the game Hartley manager Anthony Millerick said: "I was pleased with the response after Saturday’s loss against Tiverton.

"We re-jigged the pack and everyone who came in played well. Overall I thought it was a very energetic display."

On Saturday, Hartley are in FA Cup action at home to Chichester City.
