BASINGSTOKE Strikers suffered the heartache of losing in extra time to Woking in the final of their own tournament on Sunday afternoon at the War Memorial Park.

The home club had three teams in the eight team tournament and it was the Lions who roared into the final, which was one better than last year when they were beaten in the semi-finals.

In a very exciting final against Woking the 10 minute game ended all square at 0-0 as both sides went close to scoring a winner.

So the game went to extra time and the Strikers so nearly took the lead, but their goal bound effort was cleared off the line.

Woking then replied hitting the bar and post, before scoring the only goal of the contest.

Earlier, the Lions the Group A winners beat Feltham Bees in their semi-final showdown, while Group B top side Woking overcame HFT.

The Basingstoke Bears finished third in Group B and with one win from their three games which was over club rivals the Basingstoke Tigers.

The Basingstoke Strikers would like to say a big thank you to all the volunteer helpers, family members and coaches that contributed to making this another enjoyable tournament.

The annual event will be back for a fourth year in early August in 2020.
