HARTLEY Wintney continued their pre-season friendlies with a comfortable 5-1 win over Leatherhead.

It was the Tanners who started the brighter on 11 minutes took the lead with a shot past Chris Harris.

On 20 minutes, Harris pulled off a smart save and the Row gradually came into the game with their main threat coming from youngster Dean Rule.

After 41 minutes, Hartley's Harris made a good save and two minutes later, Hartley almost gained parity when a slick move saw Tom Bird’s fierce shot pushed round the post.

From the resultant corner the Tanners were unable to clear their lines. The ball fell to Jordan Stepney who saw his effort take a deflection into the net.

If the first half saw the Tanners with a slight edge, the second saw the Row well on top.

Five minutes in there was a handball by a visitor's defender in the area. Mitchell Parker stepped up and scored from the spot kick.

Ten minutes later Dean Rule went on a long run beating a number of defenders before seeing his effort blocked.

Hartley added a third goal which had a bit of quality about. Jack French did well to chase back and win a tackle.

He fed Steven Duff who crossed for Tau Odalayo. The striker who has impressed in the friendlies to date saw his first effort parried, but he made no mistake from the rebound firing into the roof of the net.

With the Row well on top a fourth goal was added on 81 minutes when Tao Adebayo created space before setting up Josh Webb.

The midfielder fired home from the edge of the box.

There was still time for Hartley to add a fifth goal when a Row forward was manhandled in the penalty box. Jack Ball stepped up and converted the spot kick.

Hartley manager Anthony Millerick said: "Both sides mixed it up a bit during the match. It took us a while to get going in the first half which was probably even.

However, we came into our own in the second half and ran out comfortable winners. We have assembled a good squad of players which of course is always a good position to be in. A good number of positives tonight."

This Saturday, Hartley are away at Slough and then on Tuesday night entertain Chertsey.
