A FOUR wicket burst from Jamie Teale was all in vain for Hartley Wintney as they lost by 77 runs to St Cross seconds.

The home side decided to bat first but lost former Hampshire star Jason Laney with only 16 scored.

This was thanks to a catch from wicketkeeper Will Kerr off the bowling of Anthony Parson.

Teale (4-81) than took over and reduced the home side to 88-5.

However, from there St Cross hit back as David Orchard (58) and Robert Hadfield (47) added just shy of a century for the next wicket.

Further useful contributions from James Allen (14) which included a six and Alex Woolvine (33 not out) which saw him clear the boundary rope twice took the home side’s score to 266-7.

The visitor’s reply did not get off to the best start, as Hugo Hammond was back in the pavilion with only 10 scored.

Will Kerr (43) and Harry Broderick (49) then took the score to 92, before Broderick and Jason Knibbs (22) then added another 30, but at this point Orchard swung the game back to St Cross as he completed a superb all-round game with 5-34.

Only Jonathan Kerr (14) Angus Brown (13) and Daniel Nighingale (16) made it into double figures in the rest of Hartley batting line-up as they were bowled out for 189.

This coming Saturday, Hartley are at home to Division Two bottom side Langley Manor.
