WINKLEBURY Junior School had the honour of representing Basingstoke at the Hampshire Schools Games in the Year 3 and 4 gymnastics competition.

The Basingstoke competition winners are therefore were eligible to compete at the Aldershot Garrison in the Army Combat Centre.

The Hampshire Schools Games are the finals of several sporting competitions including netball, basketball, tennis, athletics and gymnastics.

The team have had the opportunity to train with Joe Fraser, the Performance Director at the Basingstoke Gymnastics Club on two occasions as well as at school two mornings a week under the guidance of Miss Matson, Mrs Couch and Miss Edwards. We are very grateful to Joe and Amy too for their help and support.

Year 4 pupil (and team captain) Nisha Arulvel had an amazing day coming away with an individual bronze medal in the Body Management exercise involving splits and strength and flexibility exercises. There were over 150 children taking part so the individual bronze is an absolutely amazing achievement.

Other Year 4 pupils were Abigail Potts, NicoleVillavicencio-Duran , Jacob Kraty, Ollie Thurston, Kerem Coktan and Hasith Sati. The year 3 pupils were Aimee Couch, Scarlett Higgs, Francesca Damiral, Louie Bailey and William Austin-Cooper.

Michelle Matson said: "Each pupil had to memorise two routines and perform a vault. They have worked so hard on all their skills and their hard work has been rewarded with their eighth place finish."

"Winklebury Infant School are the current Key Stage 1 Basingstoke gymnastics champions too so we are very much looking forward to improving on what we have learned this year".
