CAPTAIN Will Ross led the by example as he smashed an unbeaten 70, to help Hartley Wintney to a 15-run victory over visiting Liphook and Ripsley.

Having been put into bat, the home side lost Jason Knibbs for a duck, but opener Hugo Hammond (64) and Indy Chakrabuti (10) moved the score to 47, before Chakrabuti was dismissed

Hammond was then the third man out and his excellent innings included six sixes and four fours.

Roy Cockram (20) kept the scoreboard ticking, before Jamie Teale (25) and Ross set about building a total to defend, as the pair moved the score to 193, before Teale departed.

Ross continued to keep the scoreboard going as his superb 69-ball knock, included seven fours and two sixes and helped Hartley to 246-7.

After losing Harry Munt early on, Liphook looked to be cruising to victory as Chris Martin (66) and Giles Cover (70) put on 144 for the second wicket.

Anthony Parson (3-59) made the breakthrough thanks to a catch from Dan Reynaldo as he removed Martin.

The visitors then slid from 162-1 to 178-8 as Parson and Jamie Teale (4-47) went to work.

Cockram (2-44) joined in the fun and a caught and bowled by Knibbs saw Liphook all out for 231.

Today, Hartley will be hoping to complete the double of Liphook and Ripsley, as they face them at home in the T20 Cup and the action gets underway at 3pm.
