BASINGSTOKE Gymnastic Club's Aerobic Gymnastics Team had a very successful weekend at the Southern Region Championships, pickng up 13 golds, 11 silvers and 11 bronzes.

In the six to eight years category, Basingstoke GC dominated the category with gold, silver and bronze in both the open and closed competition.

At the national level, newcomer Felix Smith got a clean sweep in all categories he entered, leaving with four gold medals; two individually and two with Amelia Thynne who also medalled individually.

The club's group routine for ages 15 to 17 also took home the gold medal for both the open and closed competition.

In the international level of competition, the club had super performances across the board, with Lily Harris standing out again in her category (10 to 11 years) with her Cinderella-themed routine, placing her in second position in the open competition and a fantastic gold medal in the closed category followed by Jayda Blanchflower who received a silver in the closed category.

Starr Hockham got a new PB with a whopping 17.9 in the 12 to 14 years category, crowning her Regional Champion in the closed category also.

To finalise such a fantastic weekend, Toni Blackburn received the Southern Region 'Coach of the Year 2019' Award for her dedication and commitment to the sport.

Meanwhile, the South Regional men’s artistic championships took place at Portsmouth Gymnastics Club on Sunday, 5 May with just under 100 entrants.

Rohan Celino, Ralph Hunt, Luke Everett and Issa Kalfon took the all-around titles in their groups. Louis David and Ellis Down was second all-around in their groups and Jamie Iamsamang took the third spot for his category.

Overall, 45 medals in total came back to the club with an impressive 18 golds, nine silver and 11 bronze with seven all-around medals.
