SAINTS loanee Cedric Soares has been left out of the Portugal squad for the Uefa Nations League finals.

Cedric has spent the last five months on loan at Inter Milan after being dislodged by Yan Valery at right back.

However, the 27-year-old has struggled to force his way into the Italian side, making only nine appearances, with just one game of the season left.

The lack of game time has meant that he missed out on another chance to win some silverware with Portugal.

Cedric was a part of the squad that won the Uefa European Championship in 2016 but won’t be able to replicate the winning feeling next month.

Like England, Portugal have reached the Uefa Nations League semi-final, where they will be playing Switzerland for a chance to face either Holland or the Three Lions.

Inter Milan do have an option to sign Cedric on a permanent deal this summer, although reports coming out of Italy suggest they won’t be taking Saints up on that offer.

Despite this, it’s unlikely the right back will struggle to find a club.

The club Saints signed him from, Sporting Lisbon, are said to be interested in bringing the defender back to Portugal.

And given that the St Mary’s side only paid just over £4 million for his services back in 2015, it’s likely they’ll make a profit from his sale.

Cedric has played 118 times for Saints, scoring twice.
