THE Basingstoke Bison have wasted no time to starting to build their team for next season with the re-signing of netminders Alex Mettam and Dan Weller-Evans.

The popular cagemen are a great start to what Herd’s fans will be hope will be a side which will bring back some more silverware to Hampshire.

Netminder Mettam lives in Basingstoke, but last season was his first back stopping the Bison.

He was the very much the starting goalie for the Herd last term and played 3,087 minutes in goal in 51 games and recorded a 90 per cent save rate for both the league and play-offs.

He returned three shut-outs last season two against one of his former teams the Milton Keynes Thunder both home and away and his last one was on home ice in the last month of the season against the Raiders.

The 31-year-old has vast experience have played in Sheffield, Milton Keynes, Guildford and Bracknell.

Weller-Evans is one of the most popular members of the team is back for a sixth straight year with the Herd making him the longest serving member of the Herd.

He returned a save percentage of 89.8 from 432 minutes last season and also chalked up a shut-out for the team on home ice against MK.

The 25-year-old had an injured hit season, but is one of the best back-up goalies at this level.

Talking about the returning duo Bison player/coach Ashley Tait said: "The two guys are a great team and no one would argue Metts was the number one last season and had a brilliant year. Dan can push him for the number one spot and was unlucky with injuries last season."

The Bison's main sponsors Trane have also been confirmed as returning next season.
