BASINGSTOKE Hockey Ladies sponsored by KJ Smith solicitors drew 1-1 in their first game of the weekend against Maidenhead.

The game was evenly matched from start to finish with Basingstoke’s goal coming from Rachel Roberts.

Unfortunately, in their second game on Sunday, the ladies lost 4-1 against a tough Wimbledon opposition.

The seconds lost 2-0 against Romsey.

The third team took on Winchester at Down Grange and this was always going to be a tough match with both teams having little time on the ball and using their pace to set up attacks.

Basingstoke had several chances to take the lead, but a combination of profligacy and good defending ensured that Winchester took a two-goal lead in the first half, despite player of the match Brigitte Wood’s best efforts to marshal the defence.

After the break the home side piled on pressure and eventually pulled one back with Caroline Mackay finishing off a fast break.

Despite throwing caution to the wind, they could not find an equaliser and sadly lost 2-1.

The fourths won 6-1 against Southampton, with strong attack playing and well placed passing leading to a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half.

The ladies perseverance paid off in the second half, resulting in an additional four goals, with the game concluding with a well-deserved win.

The fifths showed no mercy in their match against Gosport and had the upper had from the onset and did not let-up winning 10-0.

Georgie Kenwood scored a hat-trick, Toyah Jefferies a brace and there were singles for Sue Pett, Karen Binney, Milly Raybould, Fortune Belcher and Lynn Wood.

In the seventh team's game against Fleet and Ewshot, Basingstoke dominated, but just struggling to convert and find the back of the net.

Eventually, Karen Coles scored her debut goal, thanks to a great pass from Lynda Day.

The second half saw great passing and two additional goals coming from Day and Claire Keeley.

Player of the match going to Jenny Rust for her guidance and encouragement throughout the game.

The ladies under-14's won a thriller 3-2 against Haslemere.

They led 1-0 at half-time thanks to Charlotte Du Boulay’s goal and some great play kept Haslemere at bay.

After the break, Haslemere came back with two goals, but the girls showed true grit and determination with great play through the midfield and some super links into the front line.

Emily Belcher kept the defence busy, and her persistence paid off with the equalising goal.

Basingstoke then pushed on for the winner and which they got from captain Megan Payne.

The men's first team drew 3-3 against Sunbury with two goals from Dean Record and the other goal coming from Graham Garret-Lang.

The seconds quickly found themselves 1-0 down against Yateley, but they soon levelled from Phil Stewart's deflected strike into the bottom corner. Basingstoke started to control the game and scored a second goal just before half-time after some great hockey in midfield resulted in a Dan Holding goal.

The second half started with Basingstoke controlling the game and Yateley scoring early on.

With the score at 2-2 both teams were looking for a winner, which game in the form of a composed lift by Andy Goddard finding the back of the net.

Basingstoke were now in full flow and quickly made it 4-2 through Stewart for his second of the game and then Will Malone put the game to bed with a nicely timed run resulting in a great strike from the edge of the box, and the game concluding with a 5-2 win to Basingstoke.

The thirds beat Salisbury 5-1, and the fourths lost 5-2 against Aldershot and Farnham.

In a thrilling match, the fifth team won 9-1 against Aldershot and Farnham, with four goals from Tommy Reading, three goals from Nick Dudman and a goal each from Dave Cramer and Nick Horsey.

Not to be out done, the sixths also won 2-1 against Camberley and Farnborough.

The under 16 boys played a tough match against Fareham, a Division One team, in the second round of the Ashman Cup.

With only 11 players, the boys worked hard to keep the other team at bay.

However, Fareham managed to slot home numerous goals at regular intervals throughout the match.

Lucas Chambers finally scored a goal for Basingstoke towards the end of the second half earning himself player of the match.

The final result was 15-1 to Fareham.
