BASINGSTOKE and Mid Hants Athletes have had a busy start to 2019.

A total of 75 members from under-11 to senior vets took part in the Hampshire Cross Championship at Fairthorne Manor, near Botley.

Some great running saw them notch up a hat full of medals. The star performance came from Rebecca Bullock in the under-20 women’s event winning it in 24 min 05sec, while Maddie Deadman finished third and Macy Watson was seventh. The trio also took the team title.

Another win came from Alex Hamilton (42.03) was the clear vets winner and 17th in the senior men’s race.

Medals came in the under-17 men’s race with Ben Pattison (21.06) taking the bronze medal and along with Oli Morgan 10th and Cameron Coveney 12th. The team took the team gold, one point ahead of Southampton.

The under-17 women’s team won bronze, thanks to Izzy Mannion 7th, Iysha Morris 8th and Aemilia Rugman 13th.

Other top 10 finishers were Daisey Alford 8th (under-11 girls), Sam Graham 9th (under-13 boys), Izzy Law 7th (under-13 girls), Richard Sutton 7th (under-15 boys) and Dave Ragan was 8th in the senior men’s race.

Basingstoke athletes performed well in the Hampshire Cross Country League at Reading and retained their top three positions in four of the age groups.

The under-17 men finished second, led by Oli Morgan in 9th, Josh Kemp finished 13th and Cameron Coveney 15th.

The under-13 girls remain joint second in the league after a fourth place. Izzy Law led the team in 5th, Macy Connolly 15th and Grace Kirby 25th. The under-13 boys are joint third. Nicholas Thomas led the squad in fourth, Jack Hedderly 14th and Sam Kemp 27th.

The other team in the mix for medals are the under-15 boys. Richard Sutton finished 8th, Alex Lakeland 10th and Ben White 15th, consolidating the team’s third place.

A strong run from Iysha Morris, finishing 7th in the under-17 women’s race contributed to the team’s sixth place in the league.

The Senior Women are fourth led by Maddie Deadman who also finished fourth on the day.
