WESSEX Wyverns MPC, Basingstoke Sports Awards's Club of the Year 2017, has had an amazing summer season in 2018 with record numbers of children and adults competing both locally and nationally, and some even qualified for international, GB team events

In April they had 19 competing and winning a myriad of medals at the Cheltenham Biathle with 12 members qualifying for the European Champs in Germany.

This was closely followed by the South West Triathle where 11 competitors came away with five medals thus qualifying them for the European Champs as well.

They had 14 members of the club qualify as part of either the GB Biathle or Triathle teams competing in Germany, and we were delighted when Water Babies sponsored our kit for this prestigious event (pictured).

Charlie Coveney came away as European Champ for Triathle and 3rd in the Biathle; Alex Bigg, Alexis Hornsby and Cat Coveney all came 3rd in their individual races.

The team all supported each other noisily and enthusiastically, winning silvers and bronzes in a number of the mixed relay races.

All was not over yet for the club as they had a summer of biathle, triathle, relays, aquathlons, swimathons and laser-runs.

There were so many highlights but to name just a few they had a massive team of 24 children who competed at the Schools Biathle in Leweston.

They had seven hardy souls who travelled up to Salford Quays to compete in the docks, at British Biathle Champs, and qualified for the GB team at the World Championships in Egypt.

The Coveneys all competed and qualified for the GB team trip to Dublin in the new GB Pentathlon event called Laser-runs!

Lily-Mae Lancaster-Evans was the only Wessex Wyvern to take up the offer to go to Egypt as part of the GB Team for the World Championships last week, where she won a bronze in the individual event, and a silver in the mixed relays.

Roll on the winter season of indoor swimming, cross country running and laser-run events - all of which will be loudly and fabulously supported by the Wessex Wyverns Red Army of parents and siblings.
