THE Basingstoke Bison will be hoping to get themselves into the the top four of South One this weekend.

The Herd are fifth in the standing, two points behind Streatham with three games in hand. Above them are Peterborough and Swindon, while Bracknell lead the way.

This weekend, the Bison are in action on home ice against Swindon Wildcats on Saturday (6.30pm) and then on Sunday (6.45pm) they make their first visit of the season to the Milton Keynes Thunder.

The Herd will wait on the fitness of forwards Liam Morris and Hallam Wilson.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Bison player/coach Ashley Tait said: “We will prepare for both games the same and I think it is more about making sure we are doing things right, than worrying about who we are playing.”

Last weekend, saw the Bison add another former Basingstoke youngster to their line-up, as Josh Kelly has joined from Swedish side IFK Osteraker J20.

The 18-year-old had a solid debut weekend and will add even more depth to the blue line brigade.

Tait said: “I was very pleased with what I saw last weekend. Josh looked very comfortable on the puck and looks a good addition to the team.”

Last Sunday, the Bison went down 3-1 at the Peterborough.

The home side scored the only goal of the first 20 minutes from Tom Norton at 6:58.

They then scored twice in the second session from Petr Stepanek and Nathan Polland.

The Bison had the better of the final 20 minutes but were only able to score once from Michal Klejna.

Tait said: “I can’t fault the effort of the players and their third goal looked like it went through the side netting.”
