BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club ladies first team came away with a 2-0 victory against newly promoted Spencer, writes FORTUNE BELCHER. The ladies started well with strong possession and well-planned attacking play. Basingstoke’s Roxy O'Dea opened the scoring through a brilliantly executed shot from a penalty corner.

In the second half Spencer were pushing for the equaliser. During a penalty corner the ball hit a Basingstoke player on the line and Spencer were awarded a penalty stroke. Goalkeeper Gemma Carswell made a superb save to deny Spencer their equaliser, giving Basingstoke the lift, they needed to apply additional levels of pressure on the opposition. Some quick team interplay allowed Kirsty Kent to slot the second goal home from close range. Next weekend they are up against Maidenhead.

The ladies sixths came out on top against a fiesty and energetic Hamble side with a 7-2 win. Izzy Hussey managing to score four goals, with the other three goals coming from Shelley Rounding, Kate Murphy, and Luci McCallum.

Basingstoke men's first team were away to Barnes, it was a tough game concluding with a 2-2 draw, with Basingstoke goals coming from Dean Record and Luke Beddoes. The men’s seconds lost 4-1 to Romsey whilst the men’s thirds won 1-0 against Fareham sixths. It was a rather unfortunate weekend of hockey for the men’s fourths who lost 6-1 against Winchester fifths, with Basingstoke’s goals coming from Euan Rixson.

The U12 boys won 1-0 against Winchester this week, with Basingstoke’s goal coming from Dylan Brockbank, with beautiful hockey being played in this hard-fought game.

Basingstoke U10s played in their first In2Hockey tournament of the season with some good passing and utilisation of the space, with the boys and girls teams winning all their matches.
