THE Basingstoke Bison maintained their perfect start to their South One title defence, as they won 5-3 at the Invicta Dynamos.

The first 20 minutes saw both sides have their chances with Liam Morris twice being denied shorthanded by his brother and Invicta man of the match Conor Morris.

The home side opened the scoring at 22:28 from Grant Bartlett, but two minutes later the Herd were level as Alex Sampford hit the top corner finishing off a move involving Tom Ralph and man of the match Russ Cowley.

Invicta took the lead again from Callum Best, but by the second break the Bison led 3-2 after Ashley Tait netted and then Richard Bordowski poked home from close range assisted by Adam Jones and Cowley.

The final 20 minutes saw, the visitors extended their lead further as George Norcliffe scored on the powerplay from Jones and Michal Klejna.

Then with 57 seconds left in the contest, Klejna was hauled down by Best and referee Richard Belfitt awarded a penalty shot, which Klejna dispatched to make it 5-2.

The home side completed the scoring from Martins Susters nine seconds before the final buzzer.

Next for the Bison is an Autumn Cup game at home to Telford on Saturday (6.30pm).
