THE new chess season is about to start and the first monthly Family Chess morning will be held on Saturday at the Discovery Centre (Library) in the Basingstoke town centre.

All (Grandmaster or beginner) are welcome to attend this event, which is free and it starts at 10.30 am.

The club meet every Wednesday at the Basingstoke Bridge and Chess Club, Maydene, in Sherborne Road at the corner of Richmond Road. New and old players are very welcome.

Basingstoke Chess Club has a junior section which meets at the Bridge and Chess Club on three Saturday mornings in the month.

Meetings start at approx 10.30am The fourth is in the Discovery Centre/Library.

The club can offer match games against other clubs in three league’s (Berkshire, Borders and Southampton).

Also many internal tourney’s to enjoy in excellent facilities.

The club are delighted to learn that 11 year old Daniel Yu has been invited to join the England Chess squad.

Yu has been a successful chess player at various competitions over the past few seasons.

The club’s Summer Tourney’s have finished and the winners were Group A: Steven Jones (Dick Boxall Trophy which was presented by Club President John Shaddick). Group B: Graham Phillips (Roy Ashmore Cup). Group C:Adam Matthews.
