MEMBERS of Basingstoke Town Community Football Club were told at a recent meeting that there was a pressing need to build the financial resources and volunteer base now to secure the survival of the Town's football club.
With the sale of the Camrose and the completion of the artificial pitch at Winklebury expected by June 2019, the Community Club would then take over from Rafi Razzak's private ownership of BTFC.
However, Joint Club Chairman Steve Williams said: "Having Winklebury was not enough. As things stand we simply will not have enough funds or volunteers to maintain football at the current level."
Over the coming months, the club will be seeking support from the community and local businesses for the exciting project of what Williams termed ' A Club owned and democratically run by the Community'.
Director of Football Terry Brown explained that the club can still attract funds and donations from private individuals but each individual/club member only has one vote in the running of the club.
Anyone interested in assisting in any way the project to secure the future of the club at Winklebury should contact Steve Williams on 07966921584 or email stewill@hotmail.co.uk.
The club are holding an evening with Lawrie McMenemy on Friday, October 19 at the club house.
Tickets are £20 including a fish and chip supper (veggie option available).
Tickets can be purchased from club house or Steve Williams.
