BASINGSTOKE Town will need to beat Paulton Rovers in a replay at the Camrose on Tuesday night (7.45pm), to book their place in the FA Cup second qualifying round.

This was after the sides drew 1-1 on Saturday in Somerset, as the Southern League Division One home side held their Premier Division visitors.

Basingstoke welcomed back injured pair Sam Argent and Dan Bayliss, so Shane Hollamby and Ben Wright dropped to the bench.

It was the Rovers who had the first chance of note, as Ryan Gay’s shot went just wide of the upright.

Paulton’s then had the ball in the back of the net after 18 minutes, but it was disallowed for handball, for which striker Gay was booked.

Town struck back, as George Bennett’s super 25-yard strike found the back of the net, after 20 minutes.

Rovers replied with an equaliser before the break, after Mitch Tippins and Ben Withey combined for Camen Harvey to fire home from distance.

After the interval, Town were first to go close to adding a second goal, as Zidan Akers’ shot was blocked by Jamie Laird.

The same home defender was then on hand to clear off the line from Sam Smart.

Next it was the home side who went close, but McAdden pulled off a great double save to deny Gay and Ben Withey.

In the end neither side could find a winner, so they will face each other again on Tuesday night.
