HARTLEY Wintney completed their Southern League Division One campaign with a two wicket home loss against visiting Ventnor.

The home side won the toss and decided to bat and slumped to 62-7 as only Rex Porter (14) and Dan Wrenn (10) made double figures in their top seven batters.

It was left to Will Ross (38) and Jamie Teale (37) to help Hartley over the three figures as they added 75 runs for the eighth wicket.

This took them to 138-8 and the home side lost their last three wickets without anymore runs to the score.

Hugh Calloway was the chief wicket taker with 5-37.

To stand any chance of winning Hartley needed to take quick wickets and thanks to Wrenn (2-35) and Ben Earney (2-61) reduced them to 22-3.

However, Calloway completed a great all round performance as he then hit an unbeaten 69 to steer the island side home inside 25 overs.

He nearly ran out of partners as Rhys Batcup (3-25) saw Ventnor finish with eight wickets down.

Before the game Hartley already knew they would finish bottom and so next season with face Basingstoke and North Hants IIs in the Division Two.
