HARTLEY Wintney’s hopes of avoiding relegation from Southern League Division One were ended, as they lost by three wickets at last season’s champions Calmore Sports.
The visitors won the toss and after losing Jonny Kerr and Rajeev Nair early on, Rex Porter (10) and Dan Wrenn (39) put on 44 for the third wicket to take the total to 66.
However, the visitors then lost five wickets for seven runs.
It was left to James Beckwith (18) and Ben Earney (17 not out) to help Hartley into three figures on their way to 120 all out.
Steve Wright was the top Calmore bowler with 4-36.
In reply, the home side suffered and at one time were 73-6, as Rhys Batcup, Earney, Dan Reyaldo and Wrenn all took wickets.
Calmore’s James Manning then took up the mantle with a match winning 52 not out.
Along with Darren Vann (11) he steered the side into three figures and then finished off the job with Tom Pegler.
Hartley Wintney’s last league game this season is at home to Ventnor on Saturday.
