TAMMY Beaumont spoke of her frustration after the Southern Vipers’ lost their first home game of the season.

England star Beaumont top scored with a 39-ball 37 as the Vipers were bowled out for just 105 at The Ageas Bowl last night.

New Zealand leg-spin sensation Amelia Kerr, 17, finished with outstanding figures of 4-0-6-1, but Loughborough still reached their target with seven balls to spare.

Katie George was again missing from the Vipers attack as she recovers from an injury.

Beaumont, who hit an unbeaten 62 on her Vipers debut in Sunday’s win against the Surrey Stars, said: “It was quite frustrating to lose this game.

“You know when you have reach the halfway point and only scored 105 it was going to need very hard work to defend it.

“We were at least 15-20 runs short but we made a good effort at it.

“It was a tough one to take but we were outplayed.

“We didn’t adapt quick enough to the pitch and got out playing too many loose shots across the line so we need to have a look at it as we’re going to have to bat on another pitch like that soon.

“There was tennis ball bounce and they bowled very well on it, on the flip side we were chasing the game and bowled a few more short and wide.

“Amelia bowled exceptionally well, to go for less than two and over is exceptional. If she could have got another wicket in that spell then it could have put them under a lot of pressure.”

Amy Jones and Elyse Villani shared a 71-run stand as Loughborough secured a second successive win.

Loughborough skipper Sophie Devine (3-21) set the tone by trapping fellow Kiwi Suzie Bates lbw. Dani Wyatt departed three overs later, driving straight to former Vipers teammate Georgia Adams at cover.

Beaumont oozed quality with seven fours all around the ground, but on a slow pitch runs did not flow for long.

Mignon du Preez spliced to point, Beaumont was snaffled at cover and Sara McGlashan trapped lbw as the Vipers slipped to 73-5 after 14 overs.

Arran Brindle (19) attempted a recovery but was run out after Amelia Kerr was well caught at cover, before Brindle was run out and Paige Scholfield snared at long-on.

The collapse was complete with four balls of the innings remaining when Carla Rudd was bowled attempting a scoop and Fi Morris stumped.

The Vipers’ are away to Lancashire Thunder on Sunday and are back at The Ageas Bowl for the first half of a T20 double header, before Hampshire play Somerset, on August 8.
