HARTLEY Wintney gave their hopes of avoiding relegation a shot in the arm, as they beat visiting local rivals Hook and Newnham Basics by two wickets.

The home side put the visitors into bat and Ben Earley (2-34) quickly removed Jack Robson.

However, stand in skipper Richard Willcock (19) and Jordan Hobday (57) then moved the score 82, before Hobday was caught behind by Will Kerr off the bowling of Jamie Teale.

Willcock and Harry Warner (23), then moved the score to 112, but both were Scott Baldwin victims in the space of a run.

Matt Buckingham (18) added more runs to the total, before Dan Reynaldo struck removing him and Alex Brown with score on 133.

Baldwin (5-21) then took out the remainder of the tail, as Rhodes Franklin finished 15 not out as Hook scored 169.

The Hartley reply saw Jonny Kerr (36) and Scott Baldwin (37) helped the score to 99-3 Batting at number five Jamie Teale (21) kept the home side on track, before he departed with the score on 132-6.

Two more wickets were lost for the addition of 14 runs, before Matt Kerr (30 not out) and Harry Broderick (2 not out) saw them home.

Anik Divecha was the leading Hartley wicket taker with 3-20, while there were two wickets each for Shane Brewer and Willcock.

Today, both side are in action in the T20 cup quarter-finals Hartley Wintney entertain Portsmouth, while Hook travel to Bashley.
