LITTLE George Metzger showed remarkable powers of concentration as he struck a best-yet 194 in Hampshire Under-17s’ run strewn three-day ECB Age Group County Championship match against Worcestershire at Stourbridge.

The Basingstoke and North Hants talent, who joined the Hampshire Academy this season, kept wicket throughout the second day as Worcestershire scored a towering 492 to take a 105-run first innings lead.

Metzger, who snared two outstanding catches behind the stumps, then swapped his keeping pads for his bat to hit a remarkable 194 (32 fours) to stave off any threat of Hampshire suffering a two-innings defeat.

They were wobbling at 111-4, but Metzger found reliable partners in Alton’s Abhay Gonella and Jake Nichols, who each made 68 as Hampshire closed 381-9.
