DAVID Griffiths smashed a superb century as Basingstoke and North Hants booked their place in the last eight of the T20 Cup after winning at local rivals Hartley Wintney.

The Bountymen put into bat lost Lawrence Benge early doors, but Max Harsham hit 55 from 44 balls (seven fours and one six) and Sibonelo Makhanya hammered a quick fire 48 from 18 balls (five fours and four sixes) as the pair added 57 for the second wicket.

After Makhanya and Daniel Birch departed in the space of a run, Harsham and skipper for the day Griffiths, took the game away from the home side as they put on 131 for the fourth wicket.

Griffiths finished unbeaten on 102 not out, which came from 44 balls and included eight sixes and six fours.

Basingstoke ended their 20 overs having scored 227-4, with Ben Earney taking three wickets.

In reply, the home side finished on 167-8, thanks to Jamie Teale (30), Will Kerr (29), Lee Wood (26) and Louis Lynch (26), while Josh Weir (2-7) and Chris Candler (2-22) were the chief Basingstoke wicket takers.
